Treatment for Urinary Incontinence

urinary incontinence

Treatment of female urinary incontinence is an area of physiotherapy that has been practiced in Europe for many years, and is becoming more widely available in Canada.

Physiotherapy is a non-invasive, effective treatment to help women gain awareness and strength in their pelvic floor musculature, just as they would re-educate any other muscle group in the body.

One of South City’s physiotherapists is part of a small number of physiotherapists in Ontario trained to treat urinary incontinence. Treatment includes careful instruction in the performance of Kegel exercises, which can be very effective if learned and performed properly. In addition to improving continence, pre- and post-surgical strengthening of the pelvic floor improves the outcome of urogenital surgery.
