The simple facts…
1. Osteoporosis reduces bone density and is a major health threat for an estimated 55% of people 50 and over…….
2. Women are four times more likely than men to develop Osteoporosis.
All too often, the fragile bones resulting from Osteoporosis lead to painful unnecessary injuries because the bones are not strong enough to endure life’s stresses..
South City Physiotherapy offers 8 week extensive exercise programs – specifically designed to improve bone density and reduce the risk of injury caused by osteoporosis.
Our osteoporosis classes follow the MelioGuide Exercise for Better Bones Program – an exercise program specifically designed for people with osteoporosis. This program provides a safe and effective means to strengthen bone, reduce fracture risk and build confidence.
The MelioGuide Exercise for Better Bones Program is based on the latest research on the effects of exercise and bone health, and incorporates all of the major areas important to building stronger bones and reducing fracture risk.
The program includes:
Postural Exercises
Strength Exercises
Balance Exercises
Flexibility Exercises
Weight Bearing Exercises
Cardiovascular Exercises and Guidelines
And will also include:
-
Safe Exercise Tips
-
Exercises You Should Avoid
-
Guidelines for Safe Daily Activities
The Melioguide Exercise for Better Bones Program was developed by physiotherapist Margaret Martin. In addition to being a Physiotherapist – registered in Ontario, Margaret is a Physical Therapist – licensed in California, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist – Certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
